New technologies by their very newness require additional information for the general public as well as congress to comprehend their consequences. The restoration of the OTA is essential.
Also, how about restoring the R&D tax credit??? Few laws have done more to stimulate technological advancement.

Absolutely on target. Congress, where it concerns emerging technologies, are in a fossilized state. On ein which mature and aged minds of their membership are vaguely aquatinted with issues like email, social networks etc., John McCain pointed out his ignorance of email while campaigning. It to a young president to seize on these technologies and to use them in a profound way to effect the direction of the country. Congress is for the people and therefore they need to make "INFORMED" decisions based on fact not fiction so having no organisation dedicated to providing how best to harness 21st Century technology is like planting your head in the sand and "hoping" that everything will be alright in a world where Cyber Terrorism is not only possible but probable! A world in which we will become more and more dependant on using to pass around our personal data. There is a urgent need for an organisation like OTA. Congress needs to examine the Bush legacy of anti science, which brings to mind the anti intellectual purge akin to Pol Pot in Vietnam. The peoples house has to do what is in the interest of the people, not in the intrest of the limitations in technological advances and process of their elected individuals who need to be embarrassed into the 21st century. knowledge is indeed power!
