You are also aware of the fact that United States of America is a country, which can have difficulties as any other countries, and it can not be unnoticed, especially in such serious cases, as oil pollution of Gulf of Mexico, by UN leader,
if only there are more serious political reasons, to which health of ocean and its coast is sacrificed.

I remember when Mr.Kennedy's, first brother JFK died, and I listened on a pocket radio the news. Then several years later as a kid I shook Robert's hand in a dirt field in Long Beach on 3rd St. which joins the 710 freeway to LA while he was walking his dog as his walk in the Lincoln Park Chinese Garden was nixt because of the crowed that surrounded him and his car was so excited he couldn't even be carried over their heads like they do to rock stars at a concert. The same crowed which trampled me down and is why I was walking home and found Robert walking his dog, and when I went home to watch TV the shows were interupted because Sir Han decided to shoot him.

Now the Lincoln Park Chinese Garden is empty of water and the last bridge is in need of repair and the little pond where I would play with my model boats like the PT109, is but a memory like that old Navy by the sea...

Now I had to find out that old Teddy Bear had past on by the internet as know one said anything about his passing or seemed to care as everyone is angry over his friend the new president's policies against US,and our choice of Water Sport's for terrorist's....

Well Mr.Theodore Kennedy, I'm big enough to say something for you when as just a kid no one listened...

In mememory of the Kennedy's and the Navy I would like to dedicate the old book I am reading : " Two Years Before The Mast," written by Henery Richard Dana Jr. who sailed from Boston around the Cape Horn to Western North America, ( which I Imagine was California, and perhaps the old port of Los Angeles, and Long Beach where I grew up ),on the Brig Sailing Ship " Pilgrim."

Now old Henery made a lot of sense when he made his qoutes about the life of a sailor when instead of fuel or nuclear power all one had was the wind at his back and a few stars to guide his passage like the Southern Cross south of the Equator and the old North star of the North.

I think the old Hughes Aerospace was 29 degrees Lat. by 118 degrees Long. off the 710 and 405. So for the old Boss I'll say this in his memory when Robert Died " I don't want to be fast on the draw, but I want to be the first to write a memorial for you old Salt's on FSA Twits ! "

I hope old Camelot remember's how they treated old King Arther over his knights of the round table when Mordred brought US all to war against each other instead of those enemies of the realm and Christendom whenwe were doing battle with the enemies in the crusades. I guess it was more popular to win votes over damsels in distress while soldier's were away fighting here at home and holding old King Richard and the Republic up for ransome for the new EO's and policies freeing the terrorist's and holding the old guard to blame for things like interogation while those that cut off our heads were free to commit more acts of violence like at Lockerbe and New York City 9/11.What do I care if the old lady has an affair as it is just as Noble for them to love another while we pay for it with another on the side as well.Lucky for me I am to Ignorant to be cool for old school or suckered by some Temptress Tossed. It's none of my Bee's Wax so do not expect me to light your candles with my fire unless it's for those I know from the old round table and not the new of Mordreds birth right which is call for concern as to it's legitimacy in the first place.

To your Sir Knight I will speak kindly as your memories are part of my own of better day's and better men who with Christ and Christianity gave grace while those of other faiths gave no quarter at all, " Camelot, " Avalon my old home, a Kingdom of Rome and the Holy See !

I remember when Mr.Kennedy’s, first brother JFK died, and I listened on a pocket radio the news. Then several years later as a kid I shook Robert’s hand in a dirt field in Long Beach on 3rd St. which joins the 710 freeway to LA while he was walking his dog as his walk in the Lincoln Park Chinese Garden was nixt because of the crowed that surrounded him and his car was so excited he couldn’t even be carried over their heads like they do to rock stars at a concert. The same crowed which trampled me down and is why I was walking home and found Robert walking his dog, and when I went home to watch TV the shows were interupted because Sir Han decided to shoot him.

Now the Lincoln Park Chinese Garden is empty of water and the last bridge is in need of repair and the little pond where I would play with my model boats like the PT109, is but a memory like that old Navy by the sea…

Now I had to find out that old Teddy Bear had past on by the internet as know one said anything about his passing or seemed to care as everyone is angry over his friend the new president’s policies against US,and our choice of Water Sport’s for terrorist’s….

Well Mr.Theodore Kennedy, I’m big enough to say something for you when as just a kid no one listened…

In mememory of the Kennedy’s and the Navy I would like to dedicate the old book I am reading : ” Two Years Before The Mast,” written by Henery Richard Dana Jr. who sailed from Boston around the Cape Horn to Western North America, ( which I Imagine was California, and perhaps the old port of Los Angeles, and Long Beach where I grew up ),on the Brig Sailing Ship ” Pilgrim.”

So for the old Boss I’ll say this in his memory when Robert Died ” I don’t want to be fast on the draw, but I want to be the first to write a memorial for you old Salt’s on FSA Twits ! ”

I hope old Camelot remember’s how they treated old King Arther over his knights of the round table when Mordred brought US all to war against each other instead of those enemies of the realm and Christendom whenwe were doing battle with the enemies in the crusades. I guess it was more popular to win votes over damsels in distress while soldier’s were away fighting here at home and holding old King Richard and the Republic up for ransome for the new EO’s and policies freeing the terrorist’s and holding the old guard to blame for things like interogation while those that cut off our heads were free to commit more acts of violence like at Lockerbe and New York City 9/11.What do I care if the old lady has an affair as it is just as Noble for them to love another while we pay for it with another on the side as well.Lucky for me I am to Ignorant to be cool for old school or suckered by some Temptress Tossed. It’s none of my Bee’s Wax so do not expect me to light your candles with my fire unless it’s for those I know from the old round table and not the new of Mordreds birth right which is call for concern as to it’s legitimacy in the first place.

To your Sir Knight I will speak kindly as your memories are part of my own of better day’s and better men who with Christ and Christianity gave grace while those of other faiths gave no quarter at all, ” Camelot, ” Avalon my old home, a Kingdom of Rome and the Holy See !

We can continue to hope. The problem is that the OTA was too much of a legitimate voice of opposition to the shortsightedness of current business and market fundamentals.

Eliminating it created this significant knowledge gap and this has been by design. Perhaps if the press and media gave attention to real important issues, the formation of a new OTA could gain traction. Its 94-95 demise and the successive impacts on 1)declining "avg" American standards of living, the wealth polarization factor; 2) momentous unsustainable economic policy....are profound.

A link must be drawn between the absence of Congressional "knowledge" and how much more consumers and tax payers are being taken advantage of.....the political system is becoming / has become incompatible with the cause and effect analytics and studies that OTA crafted for our legislatures. Now a shady piece of legislation can be given to the voting members of congress with a couple weeks to go threw it. What happened to committee and subcommittee hearings for all legislation?

The quality control and statistical process control measures that the OTA's efforts provided are sorely missed. I hope we can still bring back with all that has transpired during its absence.

My concern is that science has been gated for the last 6-8 years. In many states in elementary science , less than 20 minutes a week has been put aside for the teaching of science, and inquiry based investigations have been put on hold. Congress makes decisions based on " old idea". Transformational learning tools exist. I asked the head of the Math Project about computational math and science. He admitted that he did not know what that was. I am concerned. We need OTA to certify, share and let us know educational practices that work. Some of these practices are going on at NSF, but dissemination of transformational learning could take place much faster if OTA existed and we stopped guessing our way to the future using
information from vendors and the press.

The OTA proved to be a vital function for Congress and it served as a model for the world to emulate. As I recall the OTA publications were very often one the few government publications that all got distributed rather than lying around in a large archived pile. The reports that came out of OTA were remarkable for their clarity and utility; they achieved their objective of being politically neutral and unbiased in their content. The trouble OTA had was the new Republican right didn't want objective data, because their emergent constituency wanted to create their own science. So the Newt Gingrich Republicans did away with an office that was the envry of the world. Many countries who had tried to emulate OTA were shocked to see that the United States had gutted such a useful model. Bringing OTA back would go a long way to restoring our capacity to create objective reports at a time Congress badly needs information that is reliable. It was tragic when OTA was cutoff, it would be wonderful to see it return.

Absolutely on target. Congress, where it concerns emerging technologies, are in a fossilized state. On ein which mature and aged minds of their membership are vaguely aquatinted with issues like email, social networks etc., John McCain pointed out his ignorance of email while campaigning. It to a young president to seize on these technologies and to use them in a profound way to effect the direction of the country. Congress is for the people and therefore they need to make "INFORMED" decisions based on fact not fiction so having no organisation dedicated to providing how best to harness 21st Century technology is like planting your head in the sand and "hoping" that everything will be alright in a world where Cyber Terrorism is not only possible but probable! A world in which we will become more and more dependant on using to pass around our personal data. There is a urgent need for an organisation like OTA. Congress needs to examine the Bush legacy of anti science, which brings to mind the anti intellectual purge akin to Pol Pot in Vietnam. The peoples house has to do what is in the interest of the people, not in the intrest of the limitations in technological advances and process of their elected individuals who need to be embarrassed into the 21st century. knowledge is indeed power!

I would appreciate speaking with anyone who has already developed or would like to begin developing a data collection network that could track the number of ventilator dependent children in the United States. This information could serve many purposes in the clinical arena and quite policy in the area of policy development.

These children and their families may be low in numbers but are high in cost. Most importantly, they are living in communities (just like yours and mine) all over the country, frequently clinging on to what little "normalcy" life offers them.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Nate - I have several more OTA-videos e.g., first Employee Achievement Awards and also a DVD set of from the OTA Forum on Technology and Governance in January 1993 that I have now converted from VHS format. If someone is interested posting them on YouTube that would be great; however each is about 45-50 min. lomg. But they are great - Gro Harlem Brundtland, Laura Tyson, McNamara, and more.

The videos were posted by Peter Blair, who had been OTA's Assistant Director and head of its Industry, Commerce, and International Security Division (and before that Program Manager for the Energy and Materials Program). They were typically shown at the first meeting of each OTA study's Advisory Panel to explain what OTA was and how it worked.

Advisory Panels consisted of policy and technical experts and stakeholders that would be formed for each major study to serve as information sources and reviewers and to help ensure technical accuracy and balance. They would meet several times over the course of a study to discuss the overall structure and direction of a study, to evaluate progress as the study proceeded, and to review the final drafts. However, they did not take responsibility for the report itself and were not asked to come to consensus. In fact, they were typically selected to have a diversity of viewpoints that would make consensus impossible. OTA reports would identify and thank Advisory Panel members but would indicate that the views expressed in the study were not necessarily those of the Advisory Panel members.

Thanks, Nate, for referencing my article posted on ScienceCheerleader.com I've started a petition as a fun way to get people thinking about the reopening of the OTA. If your members of interested in signing it, the link is located at the top right-side of the navigation bar at www.sciencecheerleader.com . I'd also like to hear from members of the Federation of American Scientists--do they want a better version of the OTA reopened, one which includes public participation in discussions of science policy? I'm in the process of writing a piece for scienceprogress.org on the reopening of the OTA.
